Why Kindness?
First of all, why not? I’m convinced that if we are going to be or do anything in this world why not do it (or be it) with a little more kindness?! I dare you; give it a try and let me know how it goes.
Secondly, I’m also convinced kindness might just be one of the most beneficial human actions or attitudes we can have. Maybe that’s why we are called ‘human kind.’ What if part of your DNA is actually hard-wired to be kind? Play a mental game today and act like you’re hardwired to be kind. Let me know how that goes.
Finally, I’m also pretty convinced that kindness might be one of the best intersections for humanity when it comes to conversations regarding the treatment of people and planet, being a good citizen, care for our loved ones and even how we think about ourselves. Let me explain.
To my knowledge, all the religions of the world follow or have a belief in some form of the ‘golden rule’ which states, “do unto others as you would want them to do unto you.” In other words, treat people the way you want to be treated. I also discovered in the book ‘Good Without God’ that many secular humanists, atheists, agnostics and free-thinkers also follow the very same ‘golden rule’ because, “there’s no requirement in a god to follow this rule.”
What’s my point? No matter where you go today or who you bump into along life’s path, you’re liable to meet and be alongside other humans who believe in and want to follow the golden rule. In other words; they’re probably into kindness too!
Imagine a world where we all found something we agreed on together as a foundation for how we wanted to live, love and show up in the world. And truth is, it doesn’t take all of us; I’m just looking for a few to join me on this ‘kindness rising’ adventure. Margaret Mead said, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.”
